This is Mindset & Megabytes (https://mindsetandmegabytes.com), a personal blog run by me, Caleb. This policy explains what data is collected when you visit the site, why it’s collected, and how it’s used.
What I collect and why
Comments
If you leave a comment on a post, the site collects your name, email address, and website (if provided), along with the comment itself. Your IP address and browser user agent are also collected for spam detection. An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to display your profile picture. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible publicly alongside your comment.
Contact form
If you use the contact form on the Contact Me page, the information you submit (name, email, and message) is sent to me via WPForms. This data is stored in the site’s database and used only to respond to your inquiry. It is not shared with any third parties.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats to understand how visitors interact with the site, including pages visited, time on page, and general geographic location. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data anonymously. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on. Jetpack Stats collects similar data and is governed by Automattic’s privacy policy.
Cookies
This site uses cookies in the following ways:
- Comment cookies: If you leave a comment, your name, email, and website may be saved in cookies for your convenience. These last one year.
- Google Analytics cookies: Used to distinguish users and track site usage. These are anonymous and do not contain personal information.
- Affiliate cookies: When you click an Amazon affiliate link, Amazon may place cookies on your device to track the referral. This is governed by Amazon’s privacy policy.
Affiliate links
This site participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase. This does not cost you anything extra. When you click an affiliate link, the third-party retailer (such as Amazon) may collect data according to their own privacy policies.
Embedded content
Posts on this site may include embedded content such as YouTube videos, images, or other media. Embedded content from other websites behaves the same as if you visited that website directly. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.
Who I share data with
I do not sell or share your personal data with anyone. The only third parties that receive data are:
- Google (Analytics, for anonymous site usage data)
- Automattic/Jetpack (for site stats)
- Akismet (for comment spam filtering, if applicable)
- Gravatar (for comment profile pictures)
How long I retain data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be approved automatically. Contact form submissions are kept until they are no longer needed and then deleted. Analytics data is retained according to Google’s and Automattic’s default retention periods.
Your rights
If you’ve left comments or submitted a contact form, you can request an export of your personal data or ask me to delete it. Just reach out via the contact page and I’ll take care of it. This does not include data I’m required to keep for legal or security purposes.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be posted on this page with the updated date at the top.
